I’m crazy about yarn. I’ve been knitting and crocheting for about 20 years, always frustrated that I could only afford Red Heart acrylic yarn for my projects. To make something truly beautiful, I felt that I needed truly beautiful yarn. When I started recycling yarn for my projects, it wasn’t like some brilliant inspiration or flash. I just started taking apart sweaters to see how they fit together. I thought if I could understand the design, I might do a better job in my own designs. A few days later, I came across a merino wool sweater in the most beautiful shade of red I had every seen. I decided to try to take it apart for the yarn and…it worked!

Come to find out there are a lot of people like me…knitters, crocheters, weavers and more, who can’t stand over-paying for yarn, or just plain cannot afford to pay $5 a skein for yarn! It just never made sense to me to spend more money on yarn for making a sweater than I would spend if I bought a sweater in a store. Shouldn’t all that hard work save you money?

Well, now it will. You just have to use recycled yarn.

It’s a Good Cause

All the sweaters here were purchased from the Salvation Army, so the money went to a good cause. These sweaters are carefully chosen for quality and workmanship. Only gently used sweaters appear on this site. These sweaters are usually good for frogging, but some are better for felting, depending on the fiber content and gauge of yarn.

At the very least, I hope this site teaches you about recycling yarn, makes you think more about other ways to recycle and makes you feel good for helping out a charity. The more yarn and sweaters you buy here, the more I can buy from the Salvation Army.
